Foreign Body was my response to the ISTD brief requesting a typographic solution that reflected the theme of ‘Milestones’. I explored endometriosis as a disrupter of one of the biggest milestones in young females lives - getting ones period. 

With the generous contribution of a close family members story of her journey with the disease, the solution uses dynamic digital typographic elements and hand drawn typographic illustration to explore the theme of feeling like a foreigner in your own body. Two typefaces are used – one explores the medicine, the politics, and the facts, and another – that tells the personal story. Together, with hand drawn illustration, the artifact explores the complex, messy disease and it’s place in modern society.
